The Catalyist

Got 1000 excuses for exercise and having a healthy diet? Yeah, me too. But we shouldn't. What's that phrase about treating our bodies like a temple? I know better, but I continue to let it slide. B

I do try to be healthier, if not 100%. Some days my will power is fantastic, others... And lately the 'others' have been winning out more than the fantastic days have been.

So I begin this blog for 2 reasons. 1st: My other blog should be about more than just working out, but instead I've kind of made that a focus of that blog. To better channel the fitness aspect of my life, why not make a specific home for it? 2nd: Help track my progress/ downfalls better. Maybe if I can easily see how good or bad I'm doing, it'll help motivate me. On days I'm doing good, I tend to rant about how good it feels. Maybe reading that will help the not-so-good days improve. Only one way to find out.

I begin this experiment with a new motivator, too: Jillian Michaels 90 day Body Revolution kit. (Thank you Amazon Black Friday Sale- Even came on a Sunday! ROCK OUT!)

Excuse #1: The Diet

I do not like the taste of healthy food. It's not that I'm against it. I eat some salad and I LOVE cantaloupe, but most diet food tastes nasty to me. And the diet is a big focus of this workout. Oh Crap. It's not an unreasonable diet, and it even makes sense as to why we're supposed to stick to it: this diet is planned to help boost the body's metabolism rate. Let's review Jillian's recommendations for the 1st week:

Greek Yogurt- blech!
Salmon Salad- all fish products are disgusting to me.
Steak- nope
Poached eggs- negative to any kind of egg.
Hummus & Veggies- I eat raw carrots & cucumbers, does that count?
Tilapia
Spinach Lox, Eggs, and Onions

There is not 1 item on her diet plan that I eat, nor her cookbook that should follow the rest of the weeks. I have tried these types of food served several ways; my taste buds say no. Actually, they say 'Put that in your mouth again, and your gag reflex will make you taste it twice'.

I do not enjoy being a picky eater. I wish I could enjoy these foods. To those who like it, it seems to be a joy of flavors. I am stuck with a very bland taste preference, and it controls my life.

So the diet is out. Actually, I think I'll give it to my husband. He's not a picky eater, and I think he may enjoy some of this food. I'll report back any good feedback I get, maybe it'll be useful to someone who stumbles upon this blog.

Oh, the husband. I just remembered: it's his birthday tomorrow & we're going out to dinner tonight. What a great day to start a new diet plan on! Not only can I not follow this diet, I'm going to make a pig out of myself at a burger joint. Well, at least it's not as processed as McDonalds. That's got to count for something, right? Maybe I can even convince myself to order a salad? ... at a place where I love the burgers... where the fries are amazing, too... where this is just as much a treat for me as it is for him... Yeah. I got this.

Oh well, if I'm going -maybe- eat that grease, I should at least burn a calorie or two for it. Off to try these new DVD's! THAT I'm excited about! I Love a new workout routine! Gets the blood humming & keeps things interesting!
